Venezuelan Strike Threatens Iraqi War
George W. Bush was an oil man, a failed one, but an oil man, nonetheless. So, he might just be paying some attention to the month-long general strike in Venezuela, a country that provides 13% of America's oil. With no oil moving out of Caracas, he may have to decide between Saddam and gas at $3 per gallon. Of course, if he hadn't rashly recognized leaders of a coup that toppled Chavez for less than 48 hours back in April, Mr. Bush might have some influence over the situation. Pyongyang is Beijing's Problem
The technique is as old as the art of magic, misdirection. Quite simply, the idea is to focus attention away from the action. While Bush 43 is paying attention to Iraq, the criminally insane regime in North Korea is tearing up every nuclear non-proliferation agreement in sight. One wonders if Washington is smart enough to make China fix the problem, since it has painted itself into a corner with Saddam and can do nothing itself. Click here for more.

Kenya's Peaceful Transition
The African country of Kenya took a huge step forward as 2002 ended, and gave us all a small cause for hope. After almost 40 years of power, the ruling KANU party was voted out by a large majority, and power went peacefully to the former opposition party. No tanks in the streets. No rioting.
