Supreme Court Rules Against Corporate Money
The Supreme Court has ruled that corporate entities, including unions and non-profits, cannot engage in financing political campaigns the way individuals can. The complaints that this infringes on the right to free speech are hollow and wrong, but stem from the court's decision decades ago that corporate entities can enjoy rights that natural persons can. Senator Hatch's Computer Folly
During hearings on computer software piracy, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) suggested that intellectual property rights should be protected by software that destroys computers belonging to those who download unlicensed data. Mr. Hatch's idea is brilliant, and one hopes that he will get appropriate legislation approved right away to deal with the problem -- such as the unlicensed Java code on the website belonging to Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah. Lieutenant General John "Mad Arab" Abizaid, All-American
General Tommy Franks is retiring after achieving military success of Alexandrian proportions -- that is, he conquered Persia. Replacing him will be Lt. Gen. John Abizaid, a West Point graduate whose nickname there was the "Mad Arab." Mad or not, General Abizaid's appointment undercuts the view of the American military as a bunch of know-nothings.
