Bush Gets Africa Right
President Bush is not the smartest man ever to occupy the Oval Office, and his own mother would likely not argue the point, but he has a practical reasoning that has helped him fail upward in life. America's Africa policy seems about to benefit from this where more intellectual presidents have been unwilling, uninterested or unable to address the continent's needs, and America's as well. The Chechens Aren't Pro-West; Putin Is
A bomb killed some 15 people at a rock concert in Moscow last week. Two female suicide bombers are believed to have committed the atrocity, and they are linked with the Chechen rebels. President Vladimir Putin has vowed that the Russians will not let themselves be pushed around. It would be useful for him to get the backing of others to pursue these terrorists. Democracy Irrelevant to Mexican Voters
Mexican votes went to the polls last week to give President Vincente Fox and his Partido de Accion National a well-deserved kick up the backside. Or rather, 41 percent could be bothered to vote, and most of them decided the former ruling mob of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional and the Partido de la Revolucion Democratica, a leftish bunch, deserved more power.
