I am a soldier, convinced that I am acting on behalf of soldiers. I believe this War, upon which I entered as a war of defense and liberation, has now become a war of aggression and conquest." Iraqi Sovereignty Hinges on Iraqi Power
Last week saw George Bush making moves to put Iraqis in charge of Iraq sooner rather than later. He summoned America's proconsul in Iraq, Paul Bremer, to Washington to "consult" with the President on speeding up the hand over. France's foreign minister, Dominique de Villepin, was even conciliatory (sort of) saying, "Our hand is held out to our American friends because the challenge affects us all. British Government Pushes for National ID Card
The war on terror has pushed the government of Mr. Blair to take some drastic measures, but none has the potential to do long-term damage to British freedoms in quite the way the proposed national ID card plan has.
