IAEA Slaps Iran Lightly on the Wrist

The International Atomic Energy Agency "strongly deplores" Iran's 18-year-old nuke program that the Tehran theocracy covered up for all that time. For those who think the UN and its associated organizations hold the keys to world peace, this may cause a re-think. Perhaps not, because that would presume they thought in the first place.

One would have thought that an 18-year process of deception and deceit, even outright lying, would merit an official report to the UN Security Council and appropriate action from that body. Instead, Iran has been told that any future violations would result in the most serious of consequences. Meanwhile, the 35 member IAEA Board of Governors "welcomes Iran's offer of active cooperation and openness." One would expect this from a group that includes France, Germany and Russia, but Washington and Britain also voted for this resolution.

The explanation for this weak response to Iran's non-compliance with treaty obligations was a mistaken belief that it endangered future compliance and efforts currently underway to secure it. Iran has promised to sign an additional protocol to ensure future inspections and other deterrents to A-Bomb building. In other words, the west is going to let Iran get away with 18-years of treaty violations in exchange for keeping the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty in the future and agreeing to further terms. The sound of the mullahs laughing carries all the way around the world.

Fortunately, Iran will not clean up its act. It has no reason to do so. It is close to having its own Bomb since it has been reprocessing uranium and plutonium. Once a decent engineer has those substances, the rest of the Bomb is easy to build. Why is this fortunate? Because Iran has so many skeleton's in its nuclear closet that it will get caught, somehow, someway, its people will get sloppy. And then, the IAEA can appeal to the UN Security Council, which will not only "strongly deplore" but also "harshly condemn" or even "profoundly loath" the actions of Iran. That will show them.
