New York and DC Lose Security Funds -- The one thing that unites Republican and Democrat legislators in the State of New York is the loss of federal funds to the state. When the Heimatschutzministerium, as the Department of Homeland Security is more properly called, cut funds for New York and Washington, DC, in its Urban Areas Security Initiative, New York elected officials and what little representation Washington has, united to point out the sin. They merely identified the symptom, though, not the disease.

Canada Foils Homegrown Al Qaeda Wannabes -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police got their men, again, 17 of them. These alleged homegrown terrorists had three tons of ammonium nitrate in 25-kilo bags, three times the amount American homegrown terrorist Timothy McVeigh used in Oklahoma City, killing 168 and injuring many times that number. About 400 officers were involved in the secret operation, many of whom had to sign the Official Secrets Act before moving into action. This is the kind of action that works in fighting terror.

Capital Beats Labor in US Economic Results -- The US national faith says that anybody who works hard enough can get ahead. Recent government statistics don’t disprove this, but they do suggest that getting ahead can be done more easily. It’s better to own stock than to sell labor or lend money.

Northern Cyprus Wins Soccer Title -- An international soccer tournament in Germany ended over the week-end. It wasn’t the big deal soccer tournament the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) runs, the World Cup. This was a tournament of 5 countries that can’t be part of FIFA due to stupid rules and international politics. Northern Cyprus beat Zanzibar on penalty kicks, and players from all five teams joined in the celebration, not because they won, but because despite FIFA, they got to play.
