Taliban Says It Targeted Vice President Cheney on Afghan Trip -- American Vice President Dick Cheney was on a secret visit to Afghanistan when a snow storm stranded him there overnight on Monday. At around 10 am local time yesterday, a suicide bomber struck Bagram Air Force Base where Mr. Cheney spent the night, killing a couple dozen people. A spokesman for the Taliban told the Associated Press by phone, “We knew that Dick Cheney would be staying inside the base. The attacker was trying to reach Cheney.” He didn’t get any closer than the front gates, but it is a propaganda point all the same.

Green Zone Cabinet OKs Oil Law -- The cabinet of the Green Zone Government in Iraq-Nam yesterday approved a draft oil law. Although the parliament will still have to vote on it, that is likely to be a mere formality. The new law will bring an end to the nationalized oil industry in Iraq-Nam, which has existed for three decades. It will also undermine the central authority, meaning the Kurds are the big winners here.

Americans Hate Their Jobs More Than Ever -- Work is a four letter word, but surprisingly, people still think of “job satisfaction” when they assess their employment situation. According to The Conference Board, a body devoted to finding out what people in the economy are thinking, more Americans are dissatisfied with their jobs than are content. This echoes a study done by CareerBuilder.com in January that says 80% of US workers don’t have their dream job. Given the changes in the work place in the last 20 years, this shouldn’t be a surprise.

America’s Honeybees Are Vanishing -- Honeybees are vanishing from American hives at two to three times the expected rate. In 24 states around the country, beekeepers have noticed fewer and fewer bees in the colonies. The causes could be anything from pesticides that are banned elsewhere to lowered immunities to bee viruses. While there are plenty of replacements for honey, the real problem is the loss of pollination that results from the loss of the bees.
