MSN Money Names 10 to Customer Service Hall of Shame

This journal doesn’t go in for “Top 10 . . .” lists because there isn’t much thought given to the list; it merely makes headlines. However, MSN Money has named the 10 worst customer service companies, and in the hopes they will improve through extra publicity, here they are from very worst to 10th worst :

  • AOL
  • Comcast
  • Sprint Nextel
  • Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Qwest
  • Capital One
  • Bank of America
  • Time Warner Cable
  • HSBC Finance
  • Cox Communications
With the exception of Abercrombie & Fitch, each is either in communications or finance. In these fields if something goes wrong, it needs fixing right away. And the services are rather technical, meaning it may take a while. Nevertheless, having an angry customer means that when he or she can kick a company, the kicking begins. Every annoyed customer is a commercial that runs against a firm – constantly. They may take their business elsewhere, but at the same time, they may well prevent several friends and family members from doing business with the firm in question. And it is impossible to measure the number of customers who never came in the door because of something they heard from someone else. Better luck next year to all 10.
