Ringo Says No More Fan Mail

Ringo Starr seems to be losing his grip on reality. He has announced he will no longer sign memorabilia and will throw away all fan mail unopened. “I'm warning you with peace and love I have too much to do,” the 68-year-old drummer said. That seems unlikely. Who's asked for a Ringo autograph lately?

Earlier this year, Mr. Starr was talking to Jonathan Ross on BBC1, and he told the interviewer that there were nothing he missed about Liverpool. Quite why he named his latest album “Liverpool 8” belies this. Shortly after that, vandals in Liverpool chopped the head off a shrubbery likeness of his.

So maybe, he just doesn't want to open letters from people he has annoyed. He said, “After the 20th of October please do not send any fanmail to any address you have. If that is the date on the envelope, it's gonna be tossed.” One had no intention of sending any prior to or after that date.

Mr. Starr, the second best drummer the Beatles ever had, seems to have forgotten why he has a place in Los Angeles, another Surrey and a third place in the south of France. People like his music. Had it not been for the fans who still send mail and buy albums, he'd be sitting in Liverpool collecting a pension and watching horse races at the pub. There's nothing wrong with that, but he's got a bit more than that thanks to the fans.

A quick look on eBay shows that a Ringo Starr autograph can be had for less than $10. It's probably not going to go up in the near future. Surely after 45 years, the world has an ample supply of Richard Starkey's scribbles. ONe misses George Harrison at times like these.
