Real Americans are Dissenters -- The last few days have seen a genuinely ugliness in the tone of the Republican Party. Sarah Palin said in North Carolina how much she liked campaigning in the “pro-America” parts of the country. An odious Congresswoman from Minnesota suggested on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” that some members of Congress should be investigated for being un-American. The truth is America was founded by men who committed treason against George III. Real Americans are dissenters.
No More Need for British Troops in Iraq-Nam -- The Iraq-Namese government has decided it doesn’t need the 4,100 British troops currently in the southern part of Iraq-Nam. Prime Minister al-Maliki said, “We thank them for the role they have played, but I think that their stay is not necessary for maintaining security and control.” The Ministry of Defence expects to begin bringing most of the troops home shortly. Bernanke Says US Needs More Stimulation -- In his testimony to Congress on Monday, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said, “consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate” because of the “protracted slowdown” in the US economy. The White House is “open” to the idea. Members of Congress are likely to feel pressure as they campaign to do something. The question is not whether to stimulate the economy via legislation but how and when. India Launching Unmanned Moon Probe -- India is normally not considered when one speaks of space exploration. However, the country had its first cosmonaut in 1984, lost Kalpana Chawla in the space shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003 and has put up more than a few satellites. Last week, the Indian cabinet approved $91 million for an unmanned lunar probe. Launch of Chandrayaan-1 is scheduled for today. © Copyright 2008 by The Kensington Review, Jeff Myhre, PhD, Editor.
