McCain Aide Claims Palin “Going Rogue”

Governor Sarah Palin appears to have decided she’s not running for vice president. Instead, she’s running for control of the Republican Party. The way one can tell is by the whispers CNN is reporting from the McCain campaign. One aide has said she’s “going rogue.”

CNN reports that another McCain adviser said, “She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone. She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.”

This kind of thing occurs when a campaign’s staff comes to the realization that they’re going to lose. That isn’t the opinion of just this journal. One of McCain’s senior advisers told CNN, “This is what happens with a campaign that’s behind; it brings out the worst in people, finger-pointing and scapegoating.”

“She’s no longer playing for 2008; she’s playing 2012,” Peter Hart, the Democratic pollster, said. “And the difficulty is, when she went on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ she became a reinforcement of her caricature. She never allowed herself to be vetted, and at the end of the day, voters turned against her both in terms of qualifications and personally.”

Senator McCain is not going to be considered leader of the GOP. He’s simply too old for next time (indeed he’s too old for this time around). Mrs. Palin becomes a contender for that job based on her selection as VP. Against her are Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, but it appears she’s got a leg up and she’s going to use the campaign to secure her position – even if it costs Mr. McCain electoral votes.
